Student Launchpad

At the Nebraska Defense Research Corporation, we don’t believe in simple intern projects. We believe in real-world stakes. Here, undergraduate and graduate innovators aren’t just observing the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) – they are reinforcing it. Through a unique synergy of mentorship, experiential research and learning, and career exploration, we offer students a seat at the table where the future is decided.

2025 UNO Career Connect Outstanding Internship

“This internship gave me experience working with the government as a contractor. The work was meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned well with my coursework. There was always flexibility to explore new aspects of the project and learn from team members. We were encouraged to explore the defense industry and were often taken off site as a team to tour other companies and attend networking events after the workday ended. There was a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, which allowed us to troubleshoot problems together and develop interpersonal skills.” - Intern, 2025

2025 Project Green Buffalo

“We took time away from the coding to go talk to other professionals in this field, listen to talks, and visit other workplaces. We also got to hear various guest speakers who came to our workplace and taught us about networking concepts, government contracting, use of artificial intelligence in development, and more. Of course, we also gained practical experience directly related to the work we did, such as database management for our project, presentation skills in sprint reviews and our final out brief, and intake of shareholder feedback via user acceptance testing.” - Intern, 2025

Take Your Skills Beyond the Classroom

Foundation to Frontier Summer Internship – Our 10-week flagship internship embeds students directly into a mission task, turning classroom knowledge into operational impact. The experience peaks with a formal capstone delivery, where students present a functional proof-of-concept to leadership from USSTRATCOM and the NC3 Enterprise Center.

Special Projects Internship – The Special Projects Internship is a specialized, mentor-driven track for students seeking a more rigorous and independent experience. These roles are launched on an as-needed basis to address high-intensity technical or strategic gaps. By working 1:1 with a company subject matter expert, you will navigate complex mission tasks with a level of autonomy and focus reserved for our most advanced interns.
